uCoz is a free web builder that may not give you all the desired functionalities but has enough to keep you satisfied when it comes to building and hosting a Web site. Just like other Web builders, it allows creating a site by using its basic model that is not very flexible. However, you will enjoy creating professional pages by using one of the diverse templates for having an interactive site.

Different Packages

There are various plans on offer: Free, Basic, Business, Advanced, Premium, and Developer’s, each differing in terms of features, disk storage, and ftp uploading limit. The Free plan comes with basic modules, control panel, widgets, domain, technical support, unlimited bandwidth, statistics, 400 MB storage, and 15 MB size for FTP upload. The Basic plan includes all the features of Free plan but also offers ad-free management, and free domain name.

The Business plan, along with the Basic plan offers, comes with e-shop module, while the Advanced plan offers an ad-free control panel. The Premium plan is unique with its no uCoz copyright, while the Developer’s plan enables PHP coding.

Features

A very inspiring aspect of uCoz is its showcase section with several live sites designed with the online builder. These sites are definitely stunning in terms of simplicity and functionality. Apart from that, the most distinct feature to appreciate is its unlimited disk space, which is useful for creating a multimedia site.

The Interface

The online interface is easy to use for having a brand new page in just a few minutes with several modules, templates, and features. Nothing is difficult here because all is so well organized! Although there is no drag n drop feature, the interface still makes it easy for you to get started.

Once you log in, you start by choosing a module from the list: News, blog, online games, FAQs, forum, shopping cart, statistics (hit counter), photo album, polls, file catalog, mini chat, and more.  After choosing the module, you can identify your theme for getting the best view of that page.

Security

This has to be the priority of any Web owner and this is exactly where uCoz does not disappoint you at all. You can expect a reliable permission system to access the admin panel for making the site changes, attach an IP address so that the access to your admin page occurs from your machine only, and set different security levels. Further, you can take a local backup to restore the site in case of a problem.

FTP Access

This is the unique feature of uCoz, which only a few builders offer. This service is essential if you wish to upload bulk content on your uCoz site or blog quickly and without any hassle.

SEO

There is not much to gain here, except for the statistics and automatic sitemap creation. This area certainly needs additions.

Conclusion

uCoz has both benefits and limitations. However, the former beats the latter by providing complete freedom, especially to the novice.
