Introduction

Among many such system optimizers, we will be assessing one of the oldest and top products, i.e., IObit Advanced SystemCare. Dating back to the year 2005, IObit has come up with a fantastic tool to improve system performance and even protect it from many infections and bloatware programs.

The initial version of Advanced SystemCare was fundamental and focused more on simple junk cleaning and registry optimization, startup fix, etc. Later on, they even included the anti-malware program into it to protect against the infections.

The pro version of Advanced SystemCare provides real-time protection against malwares as well as internet threats. The pro version has better cleaning potential, dedicated support, RAM cleanup, and advanced tune-up features.

The final version Advanced SystemCare Ultimate has used the antivirus engine of BitDefender to enhance its real-time protection and infection cleaning. But worry not!

Even the free version of Advanced SystemCare will do a fantastic job of optimizing your system and improve its overall performance. The notable fact is that it was previously called Advanced Windows Care, which was changed to the current name.

As per their stats, Advanced SystemCare is used by more than 250 million users spread across 200+ countries. It is provided in more than 40 languages worldwide.

Due to such a high reputation, the process of assessing it is crucial. We are going to review it thoroughly and understand its working and later judge how well their services performed.

Is it easy to install and Configure the Advanced SystemCare?

The first step is to install and configure the program correctly. To do that, head on to the IObit website and switch to the Advanced SystemCare page.

Sadly, IObit hasn’t offered a free trial version of this program. The difference between the free version and the pro version is somewhat significant.

This can make it difficult to assess the worthiness of the program for the users who want to test it before buying it. There are many other programs in this category that offer such a trial version, which IObit must provide too.

Nevertheless, we will check the unique features of the pro version as well as test the free version. So, let us install the product now.

After the installation, you may need to configure it for optimizing the cleaning features. You need to get familiar with the process too.

Configuring the Settings for the scan

As we said, IObit has given options for quick settings as well as the advanced ones. The quick settings are for the novice folks as well the ones who are in a hurry.

The quick settings offer first configuration options. You can even see an activate-all button to auto-adjust all types of scans. It contains the main outlines for security, clean-up, performance, and scan automation. Most of these settings are only included in the paid plan.

These include detailed configurations of all the features mentioned above in quick settings. It is advised to go through them and understand them before tweaking them.

Most of these settings are pretty straightforward, and there must not be many issues grasping them. Once done, we can now proceed to work on the scan.

Now, as you move the central panel of Advanced SystemCare, there are four primary tabs to perform optimization. They are listed as System Care, Speed Up, Protect, and Software Updater.

There is a separate tab called Action Center, which suggests other IObit programs to optimize stuff like a driver, anti-malware, disk protection, uninstaller, and iPhone manager.

Now that we are done reviewing the launch interface, we can safely say that the UI is totally compelling. Most users, be it novice or pro, won’t spot any issues working in it.

Expending the Advanced SystemCare’s Scan Feature

As we have already told, the configurations are already set by us. The central panel of the program has a large scan button. You can just press it and watch the tool optimize your system.

But first, there are some checkbox options provided by them to narrow down the scan. In case you need to optimize a specific thing, select it from these options.

These are some standard options to optimize system like in startup, registry, privacy, junk files, disk performance, etc. They have gone one step ahead and made the UI even more complicated.

Just press the big scan button once you are done with the configuration set up. As the scanning begins, you will see entire junk-list on a left sidebar. It will also display a number besides these options in the bar. These numbers indicate the number of threats or fixes needs in that section.

You can skip or stop this scan anytime, which is not suggested, though. There is a checkbox below which allows Advanced SystemCare to optimize the scanned entries on its own. You can even choose to shut down, restart, hibernate, or sleep your desktop.

The entire scan took around 15 minutes, which isn’t bad. It may also depend on system processes and even the hardware itself. Too many issues in the system can also elongate the scan timings. From here, we can switch to individual tabs to fix the problems.

Press Fix All, and it will begin optimizing the content automatically. Some of the things like junk clean up, security breaches, disk optimization, etc. may take some time depending on the system specs. Some issues might need a restart to fix.

In our case, the disk optimization tool took the longest scan-time. It isn’t a pleasing thing to watch. And so, it is suggested to do such optimization only at non-work phases.

With this, we have now finished the essential scan feature in IObit Advanced SystemCare. Going through it, we would say that it really did a great job as advertised. The system felt somewhat fresh after this.

Be mindful to check how the deletion works in it properly. If you enabled the secure removal, it would take more time to fix things. Also, items lost via secure deletion are less likely to be recovered.

For that reason, it is better to save essential files or use system restore to the backup current system image, for an emergency.

Overall, the features are appropriate, and it is known to clean much better with pro-version. But, you can keep using the free version forever.

After this system optimizer, we need to peep at the speed booster.

Speed Up System Performance with Advanced SystemCare

Well, after all the junk sweeping, what else is left now? Isn't the system supposed to run faster now?

Well, even though you have cleaned the junk and optimized individual settings, many apps are running in the background, which affects the performance. These apps will again load the trash into the system.

For that reason, Advanced SystemCare has given a separate tool to manage these background apps. Sounds interesting! Let us see how they reduce the system load with these apps.

Speed Up is the tab provided immediately next to System Care. In this panel, we can adjust hardware acceleration, turbo boost mode, in-depth optimization, and app/toolbar cleaner.

These are all additives to the main optimization feature in the above section. But still, we need to see what difference they make. Also, memory cleanup, system booster, or app cleaner are ubiquitous things, seen in the mobile phones too.

Advanced SystemCare has provided the same for desktop users. Starting with the Turbo Boost, most of us are familiar with this mode, especially the nerd stock.

Many of the gamers might have used this setup once in their lifetime. As the name of this program suggests, it is used to free up unnecessary programs from memory or background processes.

By doing this, it allows the foreground applications to perform better after getting more memory resources for its functions. Unlike other programs, Advanced SystemCare will enable us to pick the programs to close.

We can pick from either Work Mode, Game Mode, Economy Mode, or even customize the programs to be closed. As you can guess, both work and economy modes need fewer resources, and therefore, it will close lesser programs.

Think of it as using tools like CAD software, Office Suites, Graphics Designers, etc. They need more resources but also need some critical system programs to give optimum performance.

Contrary to this, most video games come with their run-time package and rely less on system processes, unless they are too crucial. For that, the game mode will try to close as many background programs as possible.

If you are still skeptic about this, feel free to pick the processes you want to close via manual configurations. In the manual setup, there are three main setups to configure, i.e., system services, non-windows services, and background apps.

Pick the processes you want to close. Although Advanced SystemCare won’t show critical system apps, users still need to take care before closing random processes.

The general rule is using the recommended button below. Also, you can skip most system apps and try to focus more on the non-windows apps, which contribute more to system slowdown.

Once selected, hit Boost Now, and watch all those other processes die. Don’t get worried since these processes will restart again with the next reboot and aren’t permanently closed. They have given an option to run the boost at startup, which will again close these services.

We can even update outdated drivers that may slow or destabilize the system. This is done by Hardware Acceleration mode.

For that, it will need the IObit Driver Booster. After its download, a scan is initiated to check for the latest version of installed programs and drivers. Update the drivers and applications as deemed necessary.

Both the speed booster and driver updater are typical in system optimization tools. And in our testing, both performed very well. There was no lag or error while using them. This shows efforts by developers in making this program.

Next on the list is the Deep Optimization feature. It is quite simple to use. It works on some of the elementary things like closing hung up apps, optimize boot sectors, reset program priorities, optimize memory allocation, and so on.

If you scan the system with it, you’ll be presented with some programs that need optimization. Most of them are quite safe to be optimized, and so, just hit the optimize button.

The last one here is the App/Toolbar Cleaner. Similar to the driver optimizer, it will need additional program viz., IObit Uninstaller. This program is used to uninstall apps and toolbars.

Overall, with all these tools, we move one step further in optimizing our system for good. Managing background services, updating drivers, and removing unwanted apps/toolbars is equally necessary as removing junk files and registry.

Protect the System Apps and your Privacy

Cleaned junk, check! Optimized programs, check! Boosted the performance, check! Protected system apps and privacy? Uh no!

Well, unlike other programs in this category, IObit has given a complete package that focuses on overall performance as well as the health of the system. As we have told before, only the pro version comes with system protection tools.

They have even included privacy protection features here. It turned out to be quite exciting!

The Protect Panel in this setup includes multiple things to configure. The main tools provided here are privacy shield, surfing & ad protection, anti-tracking, coupled with face ID detector, home page manager, and real-time protection.

As you can guess from the designation itself, most of these tools protect against internet threats. Except for surfing protection and Face ID detector, all of them are paid-only.

Privacy Shield

We will assess them via paid plans and see how they offer better support. Starting with the Privacy Shield, this is a tool to control the privacy of your system. And how does it work?

Basically, we have different types of sensitive data on our system. A few examples are browser history, cookies, contacts, cloud storage folders, and so on. There are programs, aka spywares, and even applications that collect information from these locations.

To prevent that, we can use this privacy shield given by IObit Advanced SystemCare. Principally, two protection modes are provided viz., Sensitive Data Protection, and Program Blocker.

The Sensitive Data Protector blocks other programs from accessing some of the private data in sensitive locations, as mentioned above. Is it not enough?

Well, they have substituted this trouble by allowing us to manually add the programs, files, and folders to protect. Everyone has different privacy needs, and for that reason, this option is terrific.

After that, we have the Untrusted Program Blocker. Well, most applications we install on our system are entirely trustworthy. However, they themselves can be spyware and even introduce some 3^rd party programs that may harm the system.

To avoid that, we can use this feature, and it will scan all the running as well as installed processes to identify the unwanted ones. It is similar to a real-time scan in anti-virus programs. We can even manually add programs in its whitelist.

Overall, it is a decent feature to find the snooping apps in the system and protect sensitive data from them.

Surfing Protection & Ads Removal

It is hardly possible that urban folk can live without surfing the internet every day. With the internet, you are subjected to a plethora of threats. You will need to take care if anything wrong comes from those websites.

But, Advanced SystemCare has one trick up its sleeve. To protect against such threats that spread from browsers, they have given the Surfing Protection tool.

The three primary protections in surfing mode are email, browsing, and ads protection. The email protection will scan for spams, phishing emails, and other threats spread via emails. It will only scan the emails in the browser session, though.

Next is the Surfing Protection. This includes protection against malware websites, extension/plugins that can download malwares on your system, etc. Currently, it only supports four web-browsers viz., Chrome, Firefox, IE, and MS Edge.

We hope that they allow adding more browsers manually in future updates. The last one is Ad-Removal. As we have experienced many times while surfing the internet, ads are one of the most common causes of infections, bloatware, and illegal data collection tricks.

To counter that, merely having an adblocker will help most of the time. For further protection, use this option instead. In the settings section of this feature, you can even blacklist or whitelist a few programs.

All in all, this is an excellent additive feature and worked satisfactorily.

Browser Anti-Tracking

Another privacy feature that allows the users to safeguard against tracking by browsers. Wait, how do these web browsers track us?

Technically, it is not the web browsers that track you, but web pages and other online trackers that do it via your web browser. The most common method is to use browser cookies and even involves digital fingerprints.

The latter one allows the tracking even in stealth mode, and so is more crucial. One of the methods is to change the user agent of the browsers frequently, and another one is to make sure to remove cookies periodically.

Instead of all these separate worries, we can use this tool. It involves digital fingerprint protection as well as browsing data cleaner. Both to them will help in maintaining privacy.

Once again, you need to pick the browsers and the data which you want to be protected. All this may sound too hard but is very novice-friendly.

Face ID and Home Page Advisor

This is one more exclusive feature by Advanced SystemCare. One of the most trendy system-protection method involves biometrics. These biometrics either use the face ID or fingerprint detection.

In this case, IObit has given a face ID protection feature. As the name says, this tool uses the face of a person to lock or unlock the system. Setting it up is also very informal.

Once you have connected the camera to the system, hit the Face ID button. This will open the menu to add Face ID. All you need to do is capture your face in the mainframe, and add it to the trust-list.

They have given a feature to improve face recognition too. This is done by adding more faces in different angles, with props like glasses, hats, etc.

After this, we have one more useful trick to handle the intruders. This feature will capture the face of the intruders and time of intrusion too. We can then add them to the trust list if they are known persons. In our case, the only intruder photo it captured was a local Garfield, whom we definitely despise.

The best part is that we can configure which time of monitoring, trusted/intruder notifications, and add multiple cameras. Overall, it will be real fun exploring this feature.

The latter protection feature is the Home Page Advisor. As it stands for, this tool will allow a user to monitor any changes in the homepage of various browsers.

Some malwares tend to change the search engine and homepage of the system browsers, which may prove to be harmful in case a browser opens the attacker's page.

It will notify us regarding any changes and even restore the settings to previous ones. The protect tab includes real-time protection, which is the anti-virus system itself.

Unlike another system optimizer, this setup is designed to protect against common threats. These features meticulously to improve the value of Advanced SystemCare’s package.

Get Additional features with Advanced SystemCare’s Toolbox

As we are stirring on, IObit surprises us with so many exceptional features. It is astounding to see a single package incorporate so many useful things.

Owing to their trend, we have a few more tools to review. These are some standard tools to optimize your device.

In the previous versions of Advanced SystemCare, IObit had provided a separate tab called Toolbox. In the latest releases, we can access it via a small tool's icon beside the minimize button above.

Click on this icon, and it will open the Toolbox, with many system optimization apps. The tools are divided into four sections, as in IObit Products, System Optimizers, Security & Repairs, and System Cleaning.

Only the items tagged as Pro require a paid subscription. All of the four mentioned tools are usable, but there is one issue with this. This gives vibes of a PUP from Advanced SystemCare.

They must try to integrate them into a single setup itself rather than bloating a device with multiple apps. Our anti-virus even scanned it as a crypto-miner.

Honestly, this may start to feel like it will take a lot of space, with all these apps being stored separately. The subsequent section consists of security and repair apps. It includes apps like Win Fix, disk doctor, undelete recovery, program manager, etc.

The final section consists of System Cleaning apps. It has a registry cleaner, disk wiper, file shredder, disk space manager, and other handy tools.

Working over all these tools, one thing we felt annoying was having to download a package for all of them. It is not suitable for people who do not want a big software. Most of the time, it will become a bit annoying. IObit can merge them somehow instead.

Miscellaneous UI Perks  

Apart from these dedicated features, the UI of Advanced SystemCare is optimized to aid the users. In our testing, with every tool installed in it, we found not a single instance of system timeout or lags.

Remarkably, they have implemented things so smoothly. There is a small UI touchup that you’ll notice after installing it. Look at the bottom right. Did you see a small floating bar?

It is similar to the widgets in Windows 7. Although Win 10 doesn’t support it, we can still use this mini-widget from IObit. This widget includes a RAM booster and system optimizer. We can even take screenshots from it, use power options, monitor CPU and RAM usage too.

To get more detailed information, click the right arrow on it. This will expand to a small pop-up window. It has a look identical to Win Task Manager. It has tabs to display details of RAM, CPU, and Disk Usage. You can even set the hotkeys for screenshots.

All this only takes a bit of goofing around, and so it shouldn’t be a big issue for anyone. You can kill any process from here directly. Good things that they omitted the critical system processes from this list, evading shutting down any critical system process.

We can view some hardware related metrics like the temperature of CPU, GPU, Motherboard, and even the fan speed. Overall, this is a beautiful widget. The last factor left is the Rescue Center.

As it says, it is used to restore the changes made by Advanced SystemCare. It can revert changes in the registry, internet history, startup items, and even do a full system restore.

Overall, IObit’s Advanced SystemCare has done a marvelous job by adding so much stuff in a single setup. We now conclude exploring the features and tools provided in it. It was indeed a fulfilling experience for us and our device.

There isn’t much to say here as you have already seen the unique features packed inside their package. Even with so many features, the pricing is surprisingly only $20 for three devices, with a 60-day refund policy.
